LONG TERM

Although you can use quick fixes to revive your business or give your sales or targets a boost, it is highly recommended that you put in place some long term business goals for improvement so that your business is on a continual trajectory to success. Without aims and goals it is hard for staff members to know what to work towards, and without targets it is hard to gauge present successes and possible future victories.

First of all, set out some goals and structures – for yourself, your staff, your suppliers, and the business as a whole. Make sure you are clear that each part of the business is going through a continual process of evolution so that your staff understand it is not a failure on their behalf that is bringing about the introduction of targets and goals. Some of the aims you may consider could be: for staff to bring in a certain number of new clients or customers, for sales teams to meet certain targets, for development areas to come up with new innovations or products, or perhaps for your management to form new business relationships. It is a good idea to set deadlines for aims and to re-assess the validity of each goal on a regular basis.   These business goals are best laid out in a business plan and made available to all business employees.

Another easy way to aim towards long term improvement is by having a business motto or catchphrase which every facet of the organisation should strive towards. It may be that you put emphasis on accountability, cordiality, teamwork, management-staff-customer/client morale, or business achievement. Make sure your motto is known to all within the business and that you reward those that live up to the ideal.
